Radiant
Candles

What?! You mean candles are suppose to make light?!

Radiant - Candles adds a basic, particle light to candles when ENBSeries Complex Particle Lights feature is enabled; much like the "More Lights for ENB" and "Particle Lights for ENB" series. To seize full advantage of this mod, a lighting mod would need to be designed around the use of particle lights. The only such mod that is fully designed in this way (to-date) is Window Shadows (both versions). With that said, these mods are not endorsed; merely provided as examples.

This doesn't use the full Particle System, which is heavy on performance. As such, this mod utilizes part of the particle lights feature and results in a simple glow that doesn't flicker and is light on performance. The lack of a flicker isn't an issue if there is a Light nearby that provides the flicker effect.

The following assets are covered by this mod:

  • Candlehorn candle set (5)
  • Glazed candle set (2)
  • Imperial candle set (9)
  • Riekling Candle
  • Ruins candle set (6)
  • Shrine Base
  • Silver candle set (3)
  • Sovngarde candle set (6)
  • Dragonborn DLC hanging lanterns (13)
  • Lantern with Candle asset
  • USSEP Imperial chandelier

Color Options (Main Files)
The color options correspond to various lighting mods and are as such:

  • Enhanced Lighting for ENB or Realistic Lighting Overhaul (works for both)
  • ELFX
  • Luminosity or Window Shadows (works for both)
  • Vanilla

The color for each color option were matched from the mod's DefaultTorch colors for all but Vanilla. It doesn't make sense to have many varying colors for candles vs fires vs torches...like vanilla does. A fire is a fire and will produce the same general color temperature regardless whether its a campfire or a candle. This color also happened to look the best in the most lighting situations while testing within various Lighting Templates. Since vanilla lighting varies so greatly from location to location, a custom color was selected that worked well in the majority of locations tested.

Light brightness is based on a scale to give a small variety and sense that larger fixtures are brighter vs single candles:

  • 1 candle = 0.6
  • 2-3 candles = 0.7
  • 4+ candles = 0.8

The Truth ENB was used for the shots and during development to get close to vanilla palette as possible. This allowed the true colors of the mods to be seen and matched. If the colors do not match after installation, it's most likely the result of the ENB Preset in use.

Installation
ENBSeries is required for this mod to work.

  1. Install ENBSeries and, if desired, an ENB Preset from an author
  2. Set EnableComplexParticleLights=true in the enbseries.ini file under the [EFFECT] header
  3. Particle lights can be customized under the [COMPLEXPARTICLELIGHTS] heading in enbseries.ini
  4. Install Main File selecting the options desired in the installer

Confused which option to use?
Users should install the option for the mod that is winning conflicts for Light records. If this is unknown, xEdit can be used to check:

Compatibility
The meshes are customized meshes from Ruins Clutter Improved (RCI) and Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM). The RCI meshes have been remapped to be compatible with vanilla textures. The Imperial Set uses SMIM textures (included).

Compatible

Other compatibility patches for meshes are planned, however, this requires permissions and such. This includes Medieval Candlehorns and Sconces so please be patient. With that said, supporting alternative meshes is a large task, and it would be more ideal for other authors to provide meshes with particle effects for their own mods.

Not Compatible

  • Not compatible with other mods where conflicts exist between meshes
  • Medieval Candlehorns and Sconces

For Mod Authors
All effects have been balanced for objects to be able to be against walls without the light being too bright on the wall. However, grouping these objects against walls or placing Lights too close to them can cause them to appear too bright so be aware.

The lack of a flicker from these objects can be remedied by placing a Light near the object that provides the flicker effect. The Light used should match DefaultTorchNS in color for the best blending.
